ATTENTION ALL OWNERS of small sail and/or paddle craft within easy driving distance of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. You are hereby commanded to bring said craft to Portsmouth next Saturday, September 1st, to participate in the Second Annual Round Island Regatta. After racing your vessel in an informal and somewhat hilarious manner twice around a short course presenting some interesting but hardly daunting challenges, you will be regaled with beer and food and fun will be had by all.
Guaranteed.
Last year’s event, organized by my good friend and fellow SEMOSA member Charles Lassen (who actually lives on the Round Island in question), was a raging success. This year’s event promises to be somewhat better organized, but no less successful.
Attending is very easy, as the start line, just off The Chandler’s Loft dock at 7 Pickering Ave. in Portsmouth’s scenic South End, is but a stone’s throw from the public launch ramp on Pierce Island, where there’s plenty of parking for cars, trucks, and trailers.
The fleet starts mustering at 1:30 pm. There is a $25 registration fee (proceeds are donated to a local charity), and it is wise to register in advance. Check here for all the gory details.
I’ll see you there with bells on!
