Nov. 21/2025: It’s true! It’s true! I’m selling Lunacy after a hard long debate with myself. She’s afloat and available for viewing at Jabin’s in Annapolis, courtesy of my old friend Forbes Horton, who is listing her for me.
Unlike last time, when I sold old Lunacy in order to buy new Lunacy, and so kept a big pile of useful gear to transfer to the new boat, this time I’m letting a lot of gear go with the boat. Including a 9-foot inflatable Achilles tender and two outboards (one electric, one gas). And a sextant even! And a 12-volt hookah rig! And much more!

Romp around in the Lunacy Report here at WaveTrain and you can suss some of the nice mods I’ve made over the years. Including a custom staysail that furls on its own luff with a continuous-line “Code furler” that lets you take the sail out of the sailplan by just easing a halyard. An extra manual bilge pump for clearing the biggest deepest sump on the boat. A revised mainsheet run that greatly reduces friction. Etc. Etc.
You can get in touch with Forbes directly if you think you might be interested. Or contact me via the site here if you want to ask me some questions about her.
This boat has been very good to me! I’m sure she will take just as good care of a new owner as well.

I sure love this boat. I was involved in the 2017 scandal whereby Cruising World bestowed top Boat of the Years honors on a boat owned by a Sail magazine editor. Those were the quaint old days when the magazines were vicious competitors and not stable-mates. I remember fondly every sail I had aboard Lunacy.
Quite the scandal indeed! I remember Herb calling me up the day of your test sail, saying it was blowing 30 and he wasn’t sure you should go out. I told him it was exactly what the boat wanted and to go ahead.

Excellent yacht. The conditions during the short time I sailed aboard weren’t even close to testing her limits, but it’s obvious Lunacy is well found, well serviced and ready to go anywhere with her crew in comfort.
What are the plans for the next one, Charlie?
Thanks, Scott. Plans for the next boat are baking! Meanwhile, let me know if you need crew!
Will do, no doubt.
